Alfred (Dunk) Dunkly, 89 yrs old, born in Brooklyn, NY on Sept 9, 1926, passed away with loving family members by his side, on March 4, 2016.
AL was a veteran of 3 wars, for the US Navy, a hospital Corpman in WWII, as a Seabee, in Korea and as a 1st class builder in Vietnam. AL was one of the last survivors of Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in 1970, also being awarded the 1st & 3rd National Defense Services medals, Vietnam Service Metal with Fleet Force Combat Operations Insignia, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. We all know AL in our own special way. He always took care of others before himself, loved unconditionally, but asked for respect and nothing else in return. He was a man with a soft heart, and a hard shell. He was a loving husband, father, Popa, and friend. He will be greatly missed
