Christene Elizabeth Ellison, age 83, peacefully transitioned on January 19, 2025, at Baylor Scott and White in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born on October 12,1941 in Loraine, Texas, to Jewel and Zeola Henderson.
Christene grew up in Cameron, Texas, and graduated as the valedictorian of her class from O.J. Thomas High School. After graduation, she married James W. Ellison in 1958 I Cameron, TX (they were happily married for 46 yrs.) Christene excelled as a remarkable domestic engineer, skillfully managing all aspects of their household while James served in the military. Later in life, she earned her cosmetology license and embarked on a career as a beautician, before transitioning to work in retail. Christene remained dedicated and hardworking until her passing in 2025.
She was a devoted member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church for approximately 50 years, actively serving in various ministries, including the Culinary Ministry, Seniors Ministry, and as Secretary for Sunday School, among others.
Christene was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Ellison; her parents, Jewel and Zeola Henderson; her siblings, Henretta Rosemond, Emerson Henderson, and Calvin Henderson; her children, Kenneth Ellison and James Jr. Ellison; and her grandson’s, Terrance Tolbert Sr. and Kanard Jackson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Samuel Henderson (Myrtle); her son, Hubert Ellison; her daughter, Marilyn Holland (Vick); her grandchildren and great-great grand-children, Montrael Brooks, Moniqua Ellison, Tamira Honeycutt (Teruce), Comeshia Jones (Corey), Marcus Ellison, Janaye Easter, Kenitha Ellison, Kierra Holland, Kaliyah McDowell, Cortlandt Brooks, Saderra Tolbert, Terrance Tolbert Jr., Ethan Archie, Victoria Archie, Tristan Archie, Golden Gachoka, Kalyn Holland, Chanel Brooks, Ace Brooks, Kadence Royal McDowell, Maverick Brooks; and special daughter-in-love’s, LaWanda Ellison and Angela Ellison. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3732 Miller Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76119. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Emerald Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 500 Kennedale Sublett Rd., Kennedale, TX 76060.
