Clayton Ellis Headley, 80 years old, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Heartis Assisted Living in Arlington, Texas. He was born on January 25, 1941, in Tipton, MO. to Ira and Inez Headley.
Clayton grew up in Emporia, Kansas. He graduated from Emporia High School in Emporia, KS in 1959. After high school he joined the Navy and served for 4 years. He began work as a truck driver where he worked for nearly 50 years and retired in 2013.
In January 1964, Clayton married Shirley May Blow in Emporia, Kansas. Their first child, Angela S’Lea was born in September 1964. A son, Clayton Jr. followed in November 1965. Finally, a daughter, Shannon Marie was born in August 1969. Clayton and Shirley later divorced.
In December 1981, Clayton married Maverly Ann (Venable) in Manhattan, Kansas. They were happily married for 24 years. They enjoyed their blended family that included many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clayton was a lifetime supporter of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He enjoyed ham radio, CB club, bowling, western movies, and his dogs. His favorite past time was being ornery!
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Inez Headley; sisters, Arlene and Sharon; stepson, Richard Eugene Welling; and daughter, Shannon Marie Headley.
Clayton is survived by step-daughter, Sherrie Gibson; daughter, Angie (Don) Bush of Aurora, CO; son, Clayton (Kristen) Headley Jr. of Lafayette, CA; brother, Darryl Headley; sisters, June and Doreen; grandchildren, Theresa Rhoden, Nikki Poe (Matthew), Cory Hogan, Joshua Bush, Amber Bush, Jenna Headley, Eric Headley, Brett Headley, Zach Unis, Ty Ricks, and Noah Ricks; great-grandchildren, Taylor Rhoden, Peyton Rhoden, Jake Rhoden, Gunner Poe, Ella Poe, Eli Poe, Avery Davis, Axel Davis and Milo Bush; and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Road in Kennedale, Texas with interment to follow at Emerald Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service there will be a reception at Emerald Hills Funeral Home and the family invites you to join them.
