Clifford Charles Cryer, more affectionately known as Buddy or Pappy passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Mary by his side on June 22, 2014.
Buddy was born to William LeRoy & Mamie Lee Cryer in May of 1949 in Cleburne, Texas. He grew up in Cleburne and married Mary Phillips in 1972. Their love flourished and their family grew with a son, Christopher in 1972 and a daughter, Elizabeth in 1976. Soon after the birth of their children, Buddy decided to attend and successfully graduated from The Dallas County Sherriff’s Academy in 1978. He spent a total of 33 years in Law Enforcement beginning his career with the Johnson County Sherriff’s Office in the Mounted Unit. He was instrumental in the county’s implementation of the Drug Task Force Unit. He joined Burleson Police Department and was a critical member of the force helping to get the first Burleson Police SWAT Unit started. He then moved his family and career to Palm Beach, Florida’s Sherriff’s Department serving with their Mounted Unit, after returning from Florida. Buddy ended his career with Johnson County Sherriff’s office in the Constables Department. He served our counties and citizens with the titles of Constable, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief Deputy with honor, and dignity. Buddy has been a long time member of the Burleson Police Association.
His family remembers wonderful life lessons, and a man with a caring heart. He did his best to instill in his children a sense of pride in themselves, and a good work ethic. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was secure in his faith. Buddy loved being a police officer and spent some of his down time target shooting, and hunting. He loved the salty air and cool breeze of being on the beach. He could relax and spend time with his family that he worked so hard to protect and provide for. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He will join in Heaven: his parents; brother, Danny Cryer; sister, Judy Cryer Thomas and husband Larry W Thomas and nephew, David Thomas.
