Donna Sue Gibson, 67, of Arlington went to the arms of Jesus, Saturday, July 28, 2012.
She was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Talihina, Okla., to her parents, Guy and Hazel. Donna was the youngest of two. She married Charles in Talihina, Okla., on May 29, 1965. They had three children.
Donna attended first through 12th grade at Buffalo Valley School District which is a small country community. She attended the 50th high school reunion in May 2012. Donna's graduating class was 18 people. Twelve of the graduating class were able to attend the reunion, all of whom started first grade and continued through 12th grade. After graduation from high school she attended Harding College and graduated from Oklahoma Christian College with a degree in education.
Donna married Charles Gibson on May 29, 1965. Donna got us our first foster child in 1968. Donna taught in the Arlington schools for 21 years, retiring in 1999 to care for grandchildren. Donna was known as "Uma" to her grandchildren. Our second foster child was in 2005. We have cared for 19 foster children completing our last one June 2012. In 1975 we sponsored one Vietnam refugee.
She was an Arlington resident for 46 years. Donna was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. Donna loved her Bible class studies and tried to be in the word.
She enjoyed gardening, foster care of children, and playing with her grandchildren. A special thanks to the nurses in CVICU at Medical Center of Arlington.
Donna was predeceased in death by father and mother, Guy and Hazel Burnett.
Survivors: Donna will be remembered by her loving husband and their children, Larry, Kevin and Susan. She is also survived by grandchildren, Timijun Gibson, Samantha Armitage, Quinn Gibson, Billy Wolfenberger and Lindsey Hagemann; sister, Lena Medders; and 19 foster children.
