Dorothy Kay Tarletz, age 70, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. She was born in Simla, Colorado on December 7, 1952 to Dim Black and Lena Schrayer Black.
Kay’s family moved numerous times with Dim Black’s work, but Kay would say that she grew up in El Paso. She graduated from Irvin High School in El Paso in May of 1971.
She was self-taught as an artist, and worked in watercolor, oil, and pastel with equal aplomb. She was also self-taught in multiple computer languages and softwares and became exceptionally proficient in the big business softwares from J D Edwards, upon which she established a consulting company, Brantley Consulting. She traveled extensively for many years, solving and resolving computer problems for businesses in North America.
Kay married Mark Tarletz in Grand Prairie, Texas in June of 2014. Either Kay or Mark would describe their years together as sweet, respectful, and filled with a vibrant love for one another, and conclusive proof of the old adage “opposites attract”.
Kay is survived by her spouse, Mark Tarletz of Arlington, Texas, her daughter Sam Rodriguez of Bedford, Texas, her brother Joe Black of Houston, Texas, and numerous nephews and nieces. She had a remarkable bond with her two cats, Maggie Mae and Princess who instinctively recognized her loving spirit, her beautiful soul, and her kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humane Society of the United States, Waggin’ Tails Adoption Center, 9009 Benbrook Blvd. (HWY 377 S.) Benbrook, TX 76126 or the The American Heart Association National Center 7272 Greenville Avenue Dallas, TX 75231.
