Easter Mae Tatum George, age 93, was born on Resurrection Sunday, April 5, 1931 in Palestine, Texas to the late Elijah and Corrie Barner Tatum. As the second oldest of fifteen children, she embraced her role as both nurturer and leader within her family. On October 7, 2024, Easter peacefully entered eternal rest, having lived a full life of faith, service, and love.
Easter’s educational journey began at Frederick Douglas High School in Jacksonville, Texas. After graduating, she continued her studies at Prairie View A&M College and later earned an associate degree in education from Tarrant County Junior College. Her passion for teaching was evident throughout her 21-year career with the Fort Worth Independent School District, from which she retired in May, 1989.
Easter accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. After moving to Fort Worth, Texas, she united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher. In 1984, she was a charter member of First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C. M. Singleton and was a long-lived active and faithful servant who loved the Lord. Easter held various roles such as Mission President, Announcement Clerk, and eventually Clerk Emeritus. Her commitment to the Lord was reflected in her more than 40 years of teaching Sunday school, a testament to her dedication to nurturing others spiritually. In March 2024, she was honored and recognized as a Pillar of First Missionary Baptist Church for her outstanding service and unwavering dedication.
Throughout life, her neighborhood community was always important. Whether visiting the elderly, providing rides to the voting polls, running errands, or simply offering a helping hand, Easter was always ready to serve. She was an active member of the Glencrest Civic League Neighborhood Association for many years and an avid election poll worker, passionate about civic duty and ensuring others had the opportunity to vote.
In her personal life, Easter was united in Holy Matrimony with Clarence George Sr., and although their union was brief, she independently raised her four children with grace and determination. A devoted mother, working multiple jobs to provide for her family while still nurturing their spiritual and emotional growth. Despite her busy life, Easter made time for the things that brought her joy. She had a passion for travel, and her enthusiasm for watching professional baseball was immense, especially the Texas Rangers.
After the passing of her beloved mother, Easter naturally stepped into the role of family matriarch, a position that suited her perfectly given her deep commitment to love and care for family. Her strength, wisdom, and kindness were felt by all who knew her, and her family will forever cherish her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance.
Easter was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and nine brothers.
Easter Mae Tatum George will be deeply missed, but her legacy of faith and service will continue to inspire generations to come. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Clarence George Jr. of Chandler, TX and Lyndon Williams of Fort Worth, TX; twin daughters, Sadie Raven of Fort Worth, TX and Sandra (Melvin) Gardner of Midlothian, TX; her siblings, Edward Tatum, Marcie Gossett and Mary Williams all of Tyler, TX; son-in-law, Robert Raven Sr. of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Everett (Nakia) Smith, Robert Raven Jr., Sean Raven, Xavier (LC) Wilkerson, Meshia George and Nicole Gardner; 10 great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
