Elva Guerra Perales, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 14, 2021, in Mansfield, TX. Elva was born July 25, 1931 in Cestohowa, TX, to Celestino and Ramona Hinojosa Guerra. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sister, Gilberto Guerra, Antioco Guerra, Alberto Guerra, Celestino “Tony” Guerra, Hector Guerra, Alicia Guerra Salazar, and Rodolfo H. Guerra.
Elva grew up in Alice, TX, and married Alfredo Perales Jr. on May 14, 1956. Elva worked for Alice ISD in the cafeteria of Salazar Elementary School doing what she loved most; cooking and serving. After moving to Arlington in 1969, Elva worked at Anthony’s Department Store downtown. She later retired and after caring for her preschool grandchildren for several years, Elva found joy in working as a handicap school bus assistant for Arlington ISD.
Elva was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She savored her roll of “Grandma” and was known for cooking meals that created community and memories. You never left her home without a bag of food to-go and a pink lipstick mark on your cheek. Elva was intentional in how she loved her family well, always remembering special days and birthdays, and following up with a call just to check-in. She enjoyed road trips to Choctaw and WinStar Casinos, bingo, coffee with family and friends, and fresh flowers ‘just because’. Elva was the epitome of beauty, grace, love, goodness, and kindness.
Elva is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alfredo Perales Jr. of Mansfield, TX; her daughter, Cindy Saunders (Paul) of Kennedale, TX; son, Alfredo Perales III, “Perry” (Cinde) of Colleyville, TX; son, David Perales (Quincy) of Roswell, NM; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Dyer (Justin), Joshua Johnson (Jenet), Zachary Saunders, Scott Saunders (Michael), Garrett Perales, Chandler Perales, Amanda Liles (Logan), Cheyanne Morris (Blake), Alexander Perales, Tristan Perales; 6 great-grandchildren, Adalyn Dyer, Garrison Dyer, Bennett Dyer, Kendall Gallaher, Preston Morris, Emersyn Morris, and several nieces, nephews, sisters/brothers in-laws and other relatives.
A rosary will be recited at Emerald Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Kennedale, TX, Friday, August 27, 2021, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a memorial service following on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. Both services will be live streamed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (Arlington, TX), Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or The Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be left on Elva Perales’ online guest book at www.emeraldhillsfuneralhome.com
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Cedar Bluff Assisted Living & Memory Care and AlēvCare™ Hospice staff and caregivers.
