Florence Bingham Penker, 100, stepped peacefully into heaven at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Burleson, Texas. She was born on April 27, 1922, in Groton, South Dakota to Guy G. and Mary Jane Bingham.
Florence grew up in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from Proviso High School in 1940. She enjoyed a long career with Sears as a Credit Department Supervisor. After retiring from Sears in 1984, she went on to work for Consumer Credit Counseling Services and H&R Block. She was active in The Fort Worth Credit Managers Association and Credit Women International.
She married Robert (Bob) Penker in 1943. Following World War II, Florence and Bob moved with their daughters from Chicago to Fort Worth, Texas. They were happily married for 46 years. Florence was a long-time member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. At the time of her death, she was a long-standing member of Chisholm Summit Community Church.
Florence enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and overseas. She also took many cruises, even treating 15 family members to a Hawaiian cruise. Florence liked working jigsaw puzzles and playing board games, card games and dominoes. She attended monthly game days with her daughters and their husbands – and she usually won!
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Penker; her father, Guy G Bingham; her mother and stepfather Mary Jane and Martin Engelson; her sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Ray Brown and Lila and Herb Hecketsweiler; and her son-in-law, Bill Tompkins.
