It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Min. Freddie Turner, who left this earthly vessel peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2025 at the age of 83, to be with his heavenly Father. Born on April 24, 1941, at midday in Mobile, Alabama Freddie and his twin brother Eddie Turner were welcomed into the world by their loving parents, Slater Sr. and Ida Bell Turner. Minister Freddie Turner was blessed to have a large family and grew up with strong family values that would guide him throughout his life. He was one of fourteen children. He attended school in Choctaw County, Alabama he spent his grade school to teenage day helping his parents with siblings care and playing outside with his brothers.

Until his relocation to Los Angeles, California to live with his eldest brother Mac. Freddie’s faith and devotion to God were central to his life. He gave his life to Christ early on, and throughout his journey, he was driven to deepen his relationship with the Lord. A pivotal moment in his life occurred during a visit to his twin brother Eddie’s house. There, he had a conversation with his sister-in-law’s mother Sister Vera Kenner who invited him to the Church Of God in Christ, in Los Angeles. That night , Freddie walked to the front of the church for prayer and received the Holy Ghost, marking the start of his spiritual journey. From that moment, he served as a minister and later an ordained elder to preach the word of God as an assist Pastor at Faith Temple Pentecostal Church in Los Angeles. His ministry also took him to Texas, where he worked alongside Pastor Dallas in Tarrant County prison system and with the Church of God of Prophecy. Freddie and his wife, Kathleen went on to minister together in Palestine, Texas for four years, touching many lives with their unwavering faith and dedication

During his walk with God, Freddie met the love of his life, Kathleen. They married January 29, 1966 and were blessed to share the next 55 years together. One of his favorite memories to tell was when he met the most beautiful woman and the cutest little girl. Freddie knew immediately that they were part of his future, and he was excited to grow their family. Under the guidance of the Lord, the were blessed to add a son, Fred Turner Jr., and a daughter, Delola Turner, to their lives, completing their family in the most wonderful way. Minister Turner was a man of service and compassion, and he dedicated much of his life to helping others. He spent 25 years of his career at Sears and Roebuck, Co. as well as working at Elizabeth Stewart clothing apparel company, you could also catch him working with his brother Lethel at Turner Maintenance LLC. In 2008, he retired from Catholic Charities after 15 years of service. Freddie’s love for his family and his desire to help other were evident throughout his life. he always talked about the joy he felt at the birth of his grandchildren and often said that if it were possible, he would have had 1,000 children ( haha), such was the size of his heart. Once he became grandpa, he was known as “PaPa” (paw-paw) by nearly every young one that looked up to him, including his long time neighbors on 3500 Lynnfield Dr. His generosity, kindness and devotion to his family and faith leave behind a powerful legacy.
