Arlington

James Larry Jones, age 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 30, 2018, in Arlington, TX.

Larry was born October 10, 1942, in Lubbock, TX, the first son of James T. Jones and Gladys (Barrow) Jones.  He graduated from Lubbock High school and went on to continue his education at Texas Tech with a degree in Landscape Architecture.  On August 5, 1967, Larry married his dearly loved wife Sally(Sligar).  While serving his country in the National Guard Reserves, the young couple moved to Oklahoma City, OK, where he began to work as a Landscape Architect for all the parks there.  After a few years, they moved back to Texas, first in Dallas, and then finally settling in Arlington where they raised their three children, worked hard, and set a Godly example to everyone.   He and his family attended Pantego Bible Church, Lamar Baptist Church, and most recently Grace Covenant Church, where at each church he faithfully served in many ways.  He loved praising his Savior while driving and listening to Southern Gospel/ Gaither music.  He made many dear friends through the years and he was always willing to help them, day or night!  He was always prepared with batteries and zip ties!  He loved joking around and grinning with a mischievous smile.  He knew names of numerous plants and how to take care of each of them.  He loved flowers and trees and being outside.  "Pop" loved his grandchildren and delighted in Saturday runs to Krispy Kreme with his Excursion loaded with grandkids.  He loved attending birthday parties and events with them.  And with a grand total of 17, that kept him busy!

After many interesting landscaping jobs, he worked at Lockheed Martin for  twenty years.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father.  He is survived by his wife, Sally Jones and his brother, Terry Jones.  Also, he is survived by his daughter, Susan Young and husband, Jeff Young, from Bonham, TX, with their ten children, three with spouses and four great grand children. His son, Brent Jones, and his wife, Vanessa Jones, from Flower Mound, TX,  with their three children.  And daughter, Sara Bettes, and husband, Shawn Bettes, from Corinth, TX,  and their four children.

We will miss our husband, dad, Pop, and friend, but rejoice that even to the end he was professing his trust in Christ.  He has finished the race well.  We are thankful the struggle is over.

A memorial service for Larry will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 4:00PM at Pantego Christian Academy in Arlington.
