Jim Bob Smith, 79, passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 22, 2011, at his home.
Memorial service: 2 pm Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Road, Kennedale, Texas; Visitation to follow. Memorials: Gifts may be made in his name to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219.
Jim was born January 21, 1932 in Rhome, Texas. His parents were Bert B and Bess Whitehead Smith. He married Barbara Ann Helm in January 1953 in Rhome.
Jim Bob was the first Graduate of Northwest High School in January 1950; joined the Navy in February 1950; worked at General Motors Arlington in 1954 when the first car was built; and most of his working years in construction.
He was a member of Kennedale Methodist Church, Moslah Shrine and Drum Corps, serving as DC President in 1987.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Smith in 1976, his parents, and only brother.
Survivors: Beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara, daughters: Melissa G. Hussey and husband Mark, Tamara L. Robinson and husband, Wayne (Mike); sisters Greta G Barradas, grandsons, Gary Lee Neal and William A. Hussey; great grandson, Jaxon Neal; uncle James C. Whitehead; nephews Barry and Chris Harvey; niece, Treci Hoppenrath; four great nephews and one great niece; cousins and many friends.
