ARLINGTON -- Joan Carpenter, 82,Beloved wife, mother, & sister died June 11, 2007 following a lengthy illness
Funeral: 10 am Friday June 15,2007 at Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park.

Born February 8, 1925 to Fern Christmas & Owen Calvin Klugh, Joan grew up on the family farm near Hunter, OK with her 5 brothers & sisters. Following high school graduation as valedictorian & school newspaper editor, Joan lived & worked in Enid, OK before attending OK A&M College (OSU), where she met her husband of 57 yrs, Malcolm J. Carpenter (Jim). They moved to Arlington TX in 1953. Joan worked at Williamson-Dickie Mfg., followed by a long, successful career in management & accounting at Chem Can Co. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Methodist for many yrs.

An extraordinary homemaker, Joan gave her family much guidance & insight. She loved her extended family, close friends, & feline companions, Buffy, Sheba & Cleo. Known for her integrity, honesty, & strong faith, Joan had a compassionate heart & strong sense of charitable, civic, & social responsibility. She inspired others by sharing her love of literature & the arts, education & travel, current events & history, animals & nature.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dean & Leon Klugh, sister Jean Fine, & an infant brother & sister. Joan is survived by her husband & daughters Elizabeth (Beth) & Amy Carpenter, sisters Donna Dayton & Ryta Kirby, sisters-in-law Lenore Klugh & Shirley Klugh, & many nieces & nephews. Her family gives special thanks to her doctor, Marianne Beard, for the kind and special care she gave Joan.
