KENNEDALE -- Joe Edward Wakeland, 90, of Kennedale passed away Monday, November 7, 2016.
Funeral Service: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Emerald Hills Funeral Home.
Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Joe was a hard working family man who retired from the Texas Highway Department after 40 years. He joined the Marine Corps. at a young age and fought in the Pacific Theater including the Battle of Iwo Jima during WWII. He loved camping and spending time by the fireside with his Pat Mayse family.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Melba Jo Wakeland; parents, Wallace and Bonnie Wakeland; siblings, Ann Gilliam and J.C. Wakeland; granddaughter, Linsey Wakeland.
Survived by his children, Mary Ann Cain and husband, Jim, Danny Wakeland and wife, Pam, John Wakeland and wife, Julie, Richard Wakeland and wife, Cheryl; Siblings, Gracie Cannon and Lincoln Wakeland; grandchildren, Candy (Nelson), Nicholas, Keely (Bonner), Heath, Tim, Ryan, Philip, Matthew, and Alicia; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
