KENNEDALE -- JOSEPH WARD STEWART, age 80, born January 12,1933 in Lufkin to Tommy and Catharine Stewart, passed away in Arlington, Texas on January 17 following a lengthy illness.
Burial, with family attending, will be Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m at Emerald Hills Cemetery, 500 W. Sublett Road in Kennedale. A Memorial Service follows immediately at 12 p.m. at his church Overcoming Faith Christian Center, 6900 US Hwy 287, Arlington, Texas 76001. Joe was raised in Lufkin and Houston, graduating from Milby High School, Class of 1951. Following graduation from Baylor University, he later received a law degree from SMU. This led to a long and distinguished legal career as founder and lead attorney for his firm, Joseph W. Stewart, PC, Based in Arlington, he practiced law throughout Texas, primarily in Tarrant and Dallas counties. Serious Illness led to his early retirement from the firm, only to open new opportunities of service in his church, Overcoming Faith Christian Center. He cherished this second career, serving as church attorney while teaching English, Debate and Bible in the church's junior and senior high school, St. Paul's Preparatory Academy.
Joe was a strong and devoted member of a loving and tightly-knit family. His survivors include three sons, all of Arlington: Tim (wife Cathy), Paul (wife Nancy) and Terry (wife Barbara); eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Bobbie Nell Wilson, mother of his children; a brother, Tom Kerr Stewart (wife Patricia) and their children (Andy, Steve and Lyn) all of Sugar Land; a sister, Kayren Zeidman (husband Lester) of San Francisco.
