Lois Francis

November 9, 1930 — January 5, 2023

Cedar Hill

Lois Dorothy Green Francis peacefully departed her earthly life on January 5, 2023 at the graceful age of 92.  She was born November 9, 1930 to the union of Thomas and Stella Green.  She was the oldest of her siblings; Thomas, Stella, Donald, Emelda, Elouise, Roy and Roger.  She was also the first grandchild on her maternal and paternal sides.  Lois was a native New Orleanian and transplanted to Grand Prairie, TX and later to Cedar Hill, TX after Hurricane Katrina.

Lois attended Corpus Christi Catholic School in New Orleans, LA and later transferred to the New Orleans Public School System.  She transitioned from being a student to motherhood to care for her new family.  Lois also ventured in domestic work temporarily to add in the care of her family.

On March 11, 1947 she married the love of her life, Edward C. Francis, Sr.  To that union they had 9 children; Lois, Dolores, Edwina, Patricia, Leona, Charlene, Edward, Rosalind and Rodney.  Lois loved and protected her children from the dangers of life.  She raised them to believe in God and the love of family.  She taught them the morals and values they needed to survive in this society.

If you knew her before she had to make an exodus to Dallas with her family in 2005 to escape Hurricane Katrina, you knew she was certainly Queen of her kitchen.  “Momma,” as she was affectionately called by her children, used to cook without disturbance.  You knew not to interrupt her or interfere when she was putting her loving touch in a dish.  Just remembering the panae`d pork chops, file` gumbo, bread pudding, bake macaroni, red beans and rice, peanut butter sandwiches and bologna sandwiches are enough to make your mouth start watering.

It would always be so funny when someone would come over to the house and ask for “momma.”  They would ask for “Big Lois.”  What made it funny was “momma” was 4’11” and her first born and namesake called, “Lil Lois,” was 5’10.”  There was a lot of power in that little package that will be missed so much.

Lois is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward C. Francis, Sr. her parents, Thomas and Stella Green, her daughter Lois Francis, her brother Thomas Green, Jr., her sister Stella Davis, her grandson Gilbert Riggleton, Jr, and her granddaughter Lillian Fluker.

Lois leaves to cherish her amazing memories, her children; Dolores (d. James) Butler, Edwina (Melvin) James, Patricia (Wayne) Lee, Leona Francis, Charlene (Robert) Fluker, Edward C. Francis, Jr., Rosalind Armour, and Rodney Francis; her siblings; Donald Green, Sr., Elouise McNair, Emelda Stewart, Roger (Kathy) Green, and Roy (Juanita) Green; her grandchildren; JoAnn Rivers, Sean Campbell, Darlene Campbell, Yolanda (Keith, Sr.) Marioneau, Rose Butler, Dr. Dyonne (Dwayne) Bergeron; Theresa Butler, Wesley (Nancy) Joseph, Candise Francis, Larry Elpheage, Rodney Elpheage, Nia Fluker, Ajene Fluker, Jemila Fluker, Angel Francis, Courtney Jackson, Trenee Jackson, Maia Armour, Jasmine Snaer, Corey Francis, Rodney Francis, Jr., and Justin Francis; 37 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grand children and 2 on the way.
