Loyd Frankin Cook was born February 18, 1924, the second child of James Curtis Cook and Laura Jane Cherry Cook. He married Beverley Faye Dove on February 8, 1952, and they were married 67 years. Loyd and Beverley became the parents of 6 children. There were also 6 spouses, twenty grandchildren and eleven (going on twelve) great-grandchildren.
Loyd graduated high school in 1941. Drafted into the Army during World War II, Loyd served his country from February 25, 1943, to April 1, 1946. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad from 1946 to 1973, and by the Interstate Commerce Commission from 1973 to 1986. Loyd loved music his entire life and sang baritone in the church choir. He served as deacon at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and Bell Avenue Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. A giving, generous man who wrote a tithe check to his church every week, Loyd Cook taught his children to love the Lord, to work hard, value integrity, and exhibit unconditional kindness. He had a song for every occasion. He was an avid bowler for many years, enjoyed fishing trips with his sons and sons-in-law, loved family reunions and attended many of his high school reunions. Football and basketball, track meets and musical performances with his children and grandchildren earned his enthusiastic attendance.
Loyd is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverley Dove Cook, six children and their spouses: Judy and Steve Andrew of Amarillo, TX, and children Eric and Nick; Philip and Chris Cook of Sun City, AZ, and their children Tory, Christy, Katie and Stephanie and three great-grandchildren; Barbara and Tim Hern of Lincoln, MO, and their children Sam, Cole and Melissa and two great-grandchildren; Dale and Misty Cook of Allen, TX, and their three children Lauren, Kasey and Micah; Anne and Carl Baldwin of Mansfield, TX, and their two children Aaron and Grant; and Leah and Danny Parish of Ft. Worth, TX and their six children Megan, Anna, Lynsee, Matthan, Shannon, and Titus and six great-grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his father, James Cook; his mother, Laura Cook; his three brothers, James, Louis, and Eugene; and two sisters, Vada and Zada.
