Mary Elizabeth West Thomason, 84, passed away on January 21, 2011.
Funeral: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, at Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel, 500 Sublett Road. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, at the funeral home. Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park.
Mary was born to Tiny Valentine and Sam West in Pauline, South Carolina, where she graduated from high school and met and married her husband, Earl Leonard Thomason, in May of 1945. They remained together 64 years, until his death in August of 2009. They moved to Fort Worth and had two sons, Jack Thomason of Lillian, and Gary Thomason of Arlington. She had three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was one of 13 siblings four of whom are still living in Spartenburg, SC, Ruby Trail, Ruth West, Ann McGariety and Shirley Orr.
When the family moved to their home in Forest Hill in 1965, Mary went to work at the Worth Book Bindery where she stayed employed for 37 years.
After her husband became ill, Mary dedicated herself to caring for him day and night until he passed. It was then that Mary became very sad and lonely and suffered an accident in her home that put her into the condition that took her from us last Friday.
Mary was consumed with nothing but her family, constantly concerned for their welfare. She was very talented at sewing and crocheting. She made some of the most beautiful Raggedy Ann Dolls you'll ever see.
She was a good, God-fearing woman who loved the Lord and put faith in Him with a regular prayer life. We love her dearly and will miss her sorely. God Bless and Keep her close.
