Matthew Ehlert

October 26, 1971 — July 25, 2019

Fort Worth

Matthew Bern Ehlert, 47, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, after a valiant and long-fought battle with liver cancer. He was born Oct. 26, 1971, in Rock Island, Illinois, to David and Susan Ehlert of Buchanan, Michigan. Matt was known for his kind heart, a listening ear and the warmth he showed to everyone he encountered.

Matt was married to the love of his life, Holly Ehlert, for the last 25 years, after meeting her in high school. The two met through Holly’s brother, Don Reeves. Matt was a devoted husband and father, thinking about the needs of his family before himself. Two years into the marriage, their family grew to first welcome their daughter, Josey, later followed by Kirstyn and Warren.

Matt was close to his brother-in-law, Don, with whom he shared his love of NASCAR and attended several races together over the years. Along with racing, Matt enjoyed watching wrestling with his son, Warren. They would spend hours sharing this mutual interest together during the evenings.

He also developed an interest in animals, having several in his home, and was passionate about spending time in the outdoors with his family. On several occasions, he would enjoy fishing and spending hours at the lake to find the perfect catch.

Matt enjoyed being a part of a large family and enjoyed going to large gatherings, sharing a meal and the conversation that followed.

For the last 10 years, Matt worked for Arlington Cast Stone as an Auto Cad Tech after earning his certification in the field. He used his knowledge to aid in the design of new homes and commercial buildings.

Matt is survived by wife Holly; his siblings Jason Ehlert (Michelle), Jennifer Boyer (Nancy Barrows); children Josey Ehlert, Kirstyn Ehlert, Warren Ehlert; grandson Carson Garcia; and countless family and friends. The Ehlert family would like to thank the Filmore family for the influence, guidance, friendship and love shown to Matt over the years. A special thanks are given to Chris Filmore, who was Matt’s lifelong best friend.

To honor Matt’s life, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the SPCA of Texas or a local charity of choice in his name.
