Raymond "Wink" Dickey passed away on February 13, 2014 in Arlington, Texas after a long illness. Wink was born on December 6, 1951 in Germantown, TN. He moved to Texas in 1989 to serve as the Executive Director for Dallas Habitat for Humanity. Wink also worked for Habitat affiliates in Memphis, Phoenix, and Austin. Wink was a visionary leader for Habitat. He once said "Habitat builds more than homes, it builds hopes and dreams, friendships, partnerships, futures and families."
Wink had requested a celebration of his life that he could be a part of. The celebration was held with Wink, his family, friends, former Habitat co-workers and board members, and early Habitat homeowners in July at the Dallas Habitat offices. It included a bus tour of the east Dallas Habitat neighborhood where Wink lived and worked and video of Wink's work for Habitat. No other services will be held. Wink is survived by his wife Denell Dickey and his teenage sons Carter Dickey and Travis Dickey of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Marion Brown of Austin and his nephew and wife, David Mark and Christine Mulhall-Brown of Lamberhurst, England. He is preceded in death by his mother Peggy Webb Dickey and his father Raymond E. Dickey, but is survived by aunts, uncles and cousins in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN. The family would like to thank friends John O'Bryan, Stephen Seybold, Cindy Lutz, and Jody Lyke for their love and support during Wink's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Wink Dickey to Dallas Habitat for Humanity.
