KENNEDALE -- Ruth Porter of Kennedale passed away from this life Wednesday, October 7, 2009. She was 88.
Funeral: 12:00 p.m. Monday at Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel
Burial: Emerald Hills Memorial Park
Ruth was one of nine children born to Robert Anderson Brown and Susie Wright Brown. She grew up on a cotton farm in Parker County. One sister survives her Theda Jones of Jayton, Tx. Ruth and her husband of 64 years spent their last years on a farm in Kennedale, where they grew chickens, pigeons, goats and donkeys. Bud passed away in 2002. Mrs. Porter was a longtime member of the Kennedale Church of Christ where she attended regularly until her health declined. Mrs. Porter was very creative. She loved to crochet and she loved working outside, At one time she had been an avid bowler. Many people have been recipients of her crocheted afghans. If she liked you, you got an afghan. She had made one for the teller at the bank and for a woman she sat next to on an airplane.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her three children and their mates, Margaret Filler and husband Byron of Spostsylvania, VA, Sharon Snow and husabnd Tommy of Mansfield, TX. and David Porter and wife Molly of St Francisville, LA. She had seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Her only grandson Thomas Snow of Madison, TN will preach her funeral.
