Fort Worth

Sallie Faye Alford, 80, passed peacefully on July 3, 2024. Sallie Faye was born on April 7, 1944, in Oakwood, Texas to John Wesley Sr. and Perlena Walker. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated in 1963 from St. Paul Shiloh High School in Oakwood and was known for her exceptional basketball skills. At an early age, Sallie Faye attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Oakwood and accepted Christ as her personal savior.

Sallie Faye met Melvin C. Alford and they married on June 27, 1966, in Fairfield, Texas. At a young age, they moved to Fort Worth and started a family in the city. Sallie Faye was blessed with four children: Pamela, Jackaloyn, Melvin Jr., and David.

Sallie Faye worked at General Motors for 32+ years before retiring in 2006.

If you know Sallie Faye, she is impossible to forget. She is remembered as strong, classy, and fierce. She had a witty sense of humor with a colorful way of expressing herself, yet one of the nicest, most giving people you will ever meet. She is known for her stylish clothing, large watches, strands of pearls, and gold rings. She enjoyed spending time with her family and talking with her grand and great-grandchildren. Other hobbies that Sallie Faye enjoyed are shopping, watching soap operas, puzzles, going to the hair salon, tending to her plants, and sitting outside to enjoy the sun.

Preceding her in death: her husband, Melvin C. Alford, Sr., parents John Wesley Walker, Sr., and Perlena Walker, all seven of her siblings: Robert Lee Walker, Harvey “Jack” Walker, Wesley “Boy” Walker, Jr., Maggie Mae Hudson, Lorraine Walker, Annie Pearl Davis, and Leo Walker.

Those left behind to continue her legacy are her two daughters, Pamela Ford and Jackaloyn Hill (Fredric), and two sons, Melvin Alford, Jr. (Sherrell) and David Alford, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and special loved ones, including Bud Ford and Kamia Runnels.
