Sandra "Sandy" Lea Stagg Thompson, born on January 16, 1942, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024. Sandy moved to Baton Rouge at the age of three and went on to graduate from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1963. Sandy was an avid LSU sports fan. She loved her alma mater, and during her retirement years, she could talk the talk with the best of them regarding LSU players, coaches, rankings, draft picks, and her opinions on anything and everything regarding the Fighting Tigers.
Later in life, while working full time, she attended the University of North Texas and obtained a Master's degree in Applied Technology Training and Development. Sandy worked diligently for both AT&T and FedEx Kinko's, leading employees as a manager, writing instruction manuals, and performing training in the classroom.
Sandy was predeceased by her beloved son, Noah Fairchild, her husband, Carl Thompson, and her parents, Edward and Finetta Stagg. Sandy is survived by her siblings, Sherry Stagg St. Aubin and Brian Stagg, her loving children, Georgia Fairchild Stewart, Michael Fairchild, Matthew Fairchild, Ginny Fairchild Yuratich, and Sarah Thompson, their spouses, and her ten grandchildren Abigail Stewart Ziegler, Aaron Stewart, Alec Stewart, George Fairchild, Rahme Fairchild, May Yuratich, Samuel Yuratich, Leah Yuratich, Benjamin Yuratich, and Margaret Yuratich, who were all the light of her life. Sandy loved to spend time in the kitchen, showing her love for her family and friends through her delicious cooking.
If you ask anyone who knew her, the first thing they will tell you is that Sandy was a woman of faith, with deep hope and trust in our God. She was a gifted teacher, leading several Bible studies over the years and was passionate about studying and spreading the word of God. Sandy's faith was evident in the grace, strength, and courage she showed during her eight year battle with cancer, as she always looked for God's providence rather than focusing on her discomfort.
Her family and friends are all blessed to have shared their life with Sandy. She is a role model for Christian living and she has left a legacy of faithful living and trust and hope in the Lord, our God.
