Sharon Elizabeth Dears Massey, 67, passed away on the 6th of June 2024 at Texas Health Harris Southwest in Fort Worth, TX. She was born on September 16, 1956 in Fort Worth, TX to Willie and Mildred (Briscoe) Dears Sr.
Sharon grew up in Mansfield, TX. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1975. During high school, she became “the first black female” to accomplish many things. Some of her accolades were being the first black cheerleader, homecoming queen and miss congeniality. All throughout the 4 years of high school, she was on the A & B honor roll. Also, she received one of the most prestigious awards, the Doctor and Mrs. Zack Bobo scholarship to Baylor University.
After high school, she attended Baylor University and Texas Christian University and ended up at the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, TX, where she received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude when graduating with her Master’s degree. Sharon substituted most of her life throughout Mansfield ISD. After getting her Bachelor's, she served the Fort Worth ISD for over 25 plus years, by starting off being a teacher and ending up being a testing coordinator. Sharon was very active in church. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church of Mansfield, TX. She served as being a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, head deaconess at one point, Pastor's Aid president and everything in between, her dedication to the church never wavered as her health started to decline. She was very faithful to God, family and BBC.
Sharon married Donald Massey in 1981 in Mansfield, TX and to this union 2 children were born. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mildred Dears Sr. and her sister, Barbara Poux.
Sharon is survived by her son, Damian (Roxanne) Massey of Crowley, TX; and her daughter, Sharee (Roy) White of Wentzville, MO; her brothers and sisters, Nathaniel (Cynthia) Dears Jr., Kenneth (Jackie) Dears, Cynthia (James) Thomas, Cheryl (Bruce) Martin, Derryl (LeeAnn) Dears; her grandchildren, Parker, Victorya, Serenity, Madyson, Xavier and Renzo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1188 West Broad St. Mansfield, TX at 11am June 15th, 2024. The Wake will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, at 7pm, June 14th, 2024. Burial will follow at Emerald Hills Memorial Park.
