Vernon Wiggins

Vernon Albert Wiggins, 92, who retired from the Department of Highways and Public Transportation as an equipment operator in 1987 after 26 years of service, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 19, at Pecan Manor Nursing Facility of Kennedale.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at Emerald Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Kennedale.
Interment at Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Visitation 6-8 p.m. at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 W. Sublett Rd, Kennedale, Texas.
Vernon was born January 7, 1925 in Alvarado, Texas.
Survived by his wife of 28 years, Valerie L. Artmier Hampton Wiggins; son, Vernon Wayne Wiggins and daughter, Beverly Ann from his first marriage; step-children, whose names are not known, from his second marriage; and step-sons, Toby Hampton and wife, Joyce of Kennedale; Mark Hampton and wife, Lisa, of Kennedale; and step-daughter, Tami Hooper and husband, Rick, of Morriston, Florida; several nieces and nephews and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren he "adopted" when he married Valerie on November 22, 1988.
Vernon, or Buddy, as he was often called, was the third of four children born to John and Amelia "Myrtle" Wiggins. The first two children, Johnnie Ray and Myrtle Fay, born in 1923, were twins, then two years later, in 1925, Vernon was born. Two years after Vernon's birth, in 1927, his younger brother, Floyd Alton Wiggins, was born. Vernon was the last surviving child, having lived a full life of 92 years and 6 weeks.
