Wilbur (Doug) Owen Jr.

April 13, 1963 — May 25, 2024

Copper Canyon

Wilbur Douglas (Doug) Owen, Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 61 on May 25th, 2024. He was known for his light-hearted nature and infectious laughter that could brighten anyone's day.

Doug was born on April 13th, 1963 to Wilbur Sr. and Doris Owen in Dallas, Texas. He spent most of his childhood in Lewisville, he was a dare devil and always pushing the limits. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1981 and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Cindy, in 1984.  As a hard worker, Doug was dedicated to providing for his family and ensuring their happiness.   He started his career in construction and excavation. In 1995, Doug and Cindy welcomed their son, Hunter, into the world. At that time Doug started his own company, Dirtcatt Excavation, to spend more time with his family. He cherished every moment with them, and his love for them was immeasurable.

Doug enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing on the lake, traveling with Cindy or rock crawling in his off-road vehicle with Hunter. His passion for adventure and thrill-seeking made him a favorite among friends and family.   He loved taking Charlie and Parker on golf cart rides, rebuilding engines, trading vehicles and equipment, neighborhood meetings and spending time with friends and family. Doug always played hard and was the life of the party.  Cindy remembers Doug as her best friend and partner in life. Hunter cherishes the memories of their father-son bonding moments and will forever carry on his legacy of laughter and love.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother Doris Owen and his sister-in-law Chris Stowell.  We are sure Chris probably greeted him with an ice-cold beer.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy of Copper Canyon; son, Hunter Owen of Springtown; grandchildren, Charlie and Parker Owen; his father, Wilbur Owen, Sr. of Grand Saline; his sister, Jeanette Owen of Grand Saline; mother and father in-law, Chuck and Pam Chandonia of Lewisville; brother and sister in-law, Cheryl and Greg Schoonmaker of Copper Canyon, and Doug’s four-legged sidekick, Kimber. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

As we say goodbye to this beloved husband, father, friend, we take comfort in the memories of his adventures and the laughter he brought to our lives. We will miss his bright spirit and his ability to always make us laugh.  Doug lived life to the fullest, and his infectious laugh and love of a good time will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace, dear Doug. May your legacy live on in the hearts of those who loved you most.
