Wyona Newton, a talented artist and beloved matriarch, passed peacefully into Jesus' arms on February 26, 2025, at the age of 88 in Weatherford, Texas. She was born on February 21, 1937, in Plainview, Texas, and spent her life creating art and cherished memories for her family and friends.
As an artist, Wyona specialized in oils and acrylics, with her most notable works being professionally sold through Home Interiors and Gifts, Inc. One of her proudest accomplishments was having some of her artwork accepted for reprint, a testament to her creativity and dedication to her craft. Beyond her artistry, Wyona was known for her calm demeanor and warm personality. Described by many as "the sweetest" lady, she was lovingly referred to as Nenaw and Nanny by her grandchildren, who fondly recalled her nurturing presence throughout their lives.
Wyona's love for her family was evident in the many activities and experiences they shared together. She was always there when you needed her, embodying the role of a devoted mother and grandmother. Some of her favorite memories included her grandchildren staying over, making snacks with them, and enjoying time at the pool. Her early days spent at the lake with the children and their cousins were highlights of her childhood that brought laughter and joy to those who knew her. She taught her daughters to sew. She was a excellent seamstress.
She had a passion for crafting that resulted in countless customized items for her family, including cherished photo albums, tea sets, shelves, and more. These handmade treasures serve as lasting reminders of her thoughtfulness and creativity. The laughter she shared with her family will forever be punctuated by echoes of inside jokes, particularly involving the word "spam," which brought chuckles to all who remembered her fondly.
Wyona completed her education by obtaining her G.E.D. and later attended technical business school. Her legacy lives on through her four children: Gail Arrington and son-in-law Ken Arrington, Deborah Greene and son-in-law Rik Greene, Donna Mills and son-in-law Tom Mills, and Randell Newton and daughter-in-law Rhesa Newton. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Britt Schrag, Sarah Greene, Terah Mills, Tiffany Wynn, Breeanna McGowan, Zane Newton, Ciera Newton, Colton Newton, and Seth Newton, along with 14 great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her spirit with them.
Wyona was the last of her seven siblings to pass, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories interwoven through the lives of those she loved. Her contributions as an artist, mother, grandmother, and friend will be deeply missed but cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
